= Rectal Cancer = Rectal cancer refers to a malignant tumor that develops in the rectum, the last part of the large intestine immediately before the anus. This type of cancer belongs to the group of colorectal carcinomas, but differs from colon cancer in terms of its location, some symptoms, and treatment methods. Most cases of rectal cancers are a consequence of chromosomal instability. According to data from the Croatian Institute of Public Health, colorectal cancers are among the most common malignant diseases in Croatia. Approximately 3,000 new cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed each year, with rectal cancer accounting for a significant portion of these cases. Due to the complexity of treatment and various therapeutic options that include surgery, radioactive iodine, and hormone therapy, patients with rectal cancer face numerous challenges. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure comprehensive supportive measures that include medical care, psychological support, and education to improve the quality of life for patients and facilitate coping with the disease. Based on its location, rectal cancer can be classified into three categories: low, middle, and high.
