Primary purpose: to function as a comprehensive national hospital discharge database that records detailed information on hospital stays across both public and private hospitals in France.
Sponsor, manager or home institution: Caisse Nationale de l'Assurance Maladie (CNAM) [1], and Agence technique de l'information sur l'hospitalisation (ATIH) [2].
Type of information: Admission date, length of stay, main, related, and associate diagnosis coded in ICD-10, number of patients admitted for medical, surgical, and obstetrical wards, type of admission and discharge, month and year of discharge, performed procedures, and other information. All of that information is for both public and private hospitals [3].
Source of information: Recording of standardized medico-administrative data in a standard collection of information.
Data level: patient level.
Number of Records: Covers 98.8% of the French population as of 2017 and receives approximately 25 million records per year [4].
Date Range: 1996 onwards [5].
