D-J stent
From Beacon
A D-J stent, or double-J stent, is a flexible tube placed inside the ureter, the duct that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder. This stent helps maintain urine flow when the ureter is blocked or narrowed due to conditions such as kidney stones, tumours, or surgical procedures. The "double-J" refers to the stent's shape, with curled ends that secure it in place in the kidney and bladder, preventing it from moving. Inserting a D-J stent is a minimally invasive procedure typically performed under local or general anesthesia. The stent relieves urinary obstruction, reduces pain, and prevents kidney damage, significantly improving patient comfort and urinary function.
